BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has criticized the decision to remove a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Bangabhaban, saying it was an unfair action.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday morning (November 12), Rizvi made these comments while attending a medical camp and blood donation event in Dhaka, organized by the BNP to mark the 7th November Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Rizvi pointed out that while the photo was once removed by Khondkar Moshtaq during his time in power, it was later put back up by Ziaur Rahman.
He argued that figures who have made important contributions to the country should be honored, and the decision to take down the portrait of the nation’s founding father was wrong.
The senior BNP leader also criticized the Awami League government, claiming that many qualified individuals were denied promotions or career advancement simply because they were associated with the BNP.
According to Rizvi, some people have remained stuck in the same job for over 15 years due to political reasons.
Rizvi further remarked, “If Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister, had not been so harsh, she wouldn’t have had to leave the country.
She knows exactly who was targeted and who suffered under her rule. When someone does wrong, they cannot stay in their own country—they are forced to flee.”
This came after news that the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was removed from the Durbar Hall at Bangabhaban on Monday.
The update was shared by Mahfuz Alam, a new advisor in the interim government, on his verified Facebook page.
